Leonard Cohen, the iconic Canadian poet and singer-songwriter, has died at the age of 82. Born in 1934 in Westmount, Quebec, he headed to New York City to join its burgeoning folk music scene in 1966. His hits included “Hallelujah”, “Ain’t No Cure for Love”, and “So Long, Marianne”. Known for his numerous romantic relationships with women from the 1960s to the 1990s, he sought peace through the Zen Buddhist path, in which he was ordained a monk in 1996. His accolades included the rank of Companion of the Order of Canada, the Prince of Asturias Award for literature, and the Glenn Gould Prize. His last album, You Want it Darker, was released just three weeks before his death.
