In memoriam: Raquel Welch

American actress and model Jo Raquel Welch died this week at 82. She first captured public attention in 1966, with the thriller Fantastic Voyage and the cult classic One Million Years B.C. The latter role consisted of just three lines, but posters of her character in a doeskin bikini costume became iconic bestsellers.

Other performances included the title roles in Myra Breckenridge (1970) and Hannie Caulder (1971). In the 1980s, Welch published a beauty and fitness manual that spun off into a series of instructional videos. Her children include actress Tahnee Welch, who followed her into acting and modelling, appearing in such films as 1985’s Cocoon.
