Retail sales were up 1.6 percent to $57.6 billion in October, according to new StatCan data. The increase was led by higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers as new car dealer sales rebounded. Also contributing to the increase were higher sales at building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers. The 3.2 percent increase was the third consecutive monthly gain, following four months of declines from April to July.
