Retail sales were down 0.6 percent to $56.6 billion in September, according to StatCan. The decline was led by lower sales in automotive categories. LBM and garden equipment sales edged down by 0.2 percent to $3.74 billion. Sales decreased in seven of 11 subsectors, representing 63.5 percent of retail trade.
