Retail sales were up 4.2 percent to $56.2 billion in June, StatCan reports, led by higher sales at clothing and clothing accessories stores. The month of June saw public health restrictions on retail eased in many regions. Sales at building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers fell 3.1 percent, the third consecutive monthly decline. In June, 5.3 percent of retailers in the subsector reported being closed for at least one day. Overall, sales increased in eight out of 11 subsectors, representing 69.5 percent of retail trade.
