Lowe’s Canada to eliminate single-use bags

Lowe’s Canada has announced it will phase out single-use plastic shopping bags in its corporate stores as of June.

“Our sustainability efforts are integral to our business strategy and are part of a continuous improvement journey to protect the natural heritage of future generations,” Jean-Sébastien Lamoureux, SVP for RONA affiliates, wholesale, and public affairs, said in a release.

The move follows Lowe’s Canada’s implementation of a fee for such bags in the summer of 2018. Profits from those fees are donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. The organization will continue to receive profits from the sale of reusable shopping bags after the elimination of single-use bags.
