MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Bloomberg reports that U.S. home improvement giant Lowe’s Cos. is in preliminary negotiations to acquire HD Supply Holdings, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. One source told Bloomberg that Lowe’s had approached the building products distributor but does not plan to proceed with a deal. Lowe’s Cos. took the unusual step of issuing a public denial of the reports. “While it is the company’s practice to not comment on rumours or speculation, we believe it is important to note that Lowe’s is not in discussions with HD Supply and we have no plans to pursue a transaction with them,” it said in a statement.
