MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. told customers via Twitter that its website was “down for maintenance” on Friday. The timing of the disruption left online shoppers looking for alternatives on one of the busiest days of the year in U.S. retail. Some Twitter users responded by saying they would buy from competitors like Sears and Home Depot. Lowe’s wasn’t alone in its predicament: early in the day J. Crew said it was experiencing technical difficulties as well. The Canadian Lowes.ca site was unaffected by any disruptions.
