Lumber prices fall as DIY enthusiasm dims

Demand for lumber has fallen in the past nine weeks as the COVID-inspired DIY bubble begins to burst, the Globe and Mail reports.

“People are just spending less time in their homes,” says Dustin Jalbert, senior economist at Fastmarkets. The cash price of western spruce, pine, and fir two-by-fours edged up last week after eight weeks of declines. Still, it’s 70 percent below the record level set in mid-May.
