Magog presents revised plan for Canac store

The city of Magog, Que., will start the regulatory process for a new Canac store from scratch after adopting a new proposal that does not involve transferring ownership of a strip of road to the retailer. A council vote and neighbourhood referendum had previously approved a deal whose terms included Canac’s title to a part of Pomerleau Street and responsibility for its maintenance.

The new plan will have to go back to neighbourhood residents for a fresh vote. Mayor Nathalie Pelletier explained to Le Reflet du Lac that “any opposition will make little difference, since Canac will then be content with the original bylaw” and assume ownership of the artery. Because of the new process, the opening of the store, initially scheduled for next winter or spring, will need to be pushed back.
