A Quebec MP has called on the federal government to provide immediate loan guarantees to lumber producers. Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay (BQ, Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot) said in the House of Commons that Quebec is the “principal target of the United States in this new chapter of the softwood lumber conflict.” The comments came on the heels of a virtual meeting between international trade minister Mary Ng and U.S. trade representative Katherine Tai.
