As the vaccination campaign forges ahead, provinces are further easing restrictions on retailers. Starting today, Quebec is dropping fixed capacity limits in stores. Instead, retailers must ensure that there is enough room for customers to maintain a distance of one metre (reduced from two) between them. Similar rules are in place in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Ontario’s government has announced the province will enter step 3 of its reopening plan on July 16, five days ahead of schedule. It too will drop percentage-based capacity limits in favour of a simple physical distancing requirement. Nova Scotia will do the same when it enters the fourth of its five planned phases this week.
Since July 1, British Columbia has been in step 3. Masks are recommended but no longer required in indoor public spaces. Store occupancy is at the discretion of the retailer. Alberta entered its final stage on the same date; all retail restrictions are now lifted. Saskatchewan entered its step 3 over the weekend, lifting all public health orders including the mask mandate.
