Quebecers want Sunday closures: poll

A new CROP poll finds that a majority of Quebecers are favourable toward Sunday closures for non-essential businesses. Out of 1,000 respondents, 63 percent would like to see retailers such as clothing and furniture stores close for the day.

The question was initially raised by AQMAT, which hopes to put all dealers on a level playing field. Taking a day off each week allows dealers to regroup at a time when sales are strong but staffing and supply remain uncertain. Yet the CROP poll found less enthusiasm for including hardware stores among non-essential businesses. Just 53 percent supported mandatory Sunday closures for the sector.
