Retail Council honours Sobey family

TORONTO ― The Retail Council of Canada will award its 2019 Canadian Grocery Industry Grand Prix Lifetime Achievement Award to the Sobey family. Sobeys Inc. Chair Emeritus David Sobey and his brother Donald, chair emeritus of Empire Co., will accept the award at a gala in late May. “Since the company’s inception … the Sobey Family has fostered a culture of philanthropy and community engagement throughout Empire Co. Ltd. and its employees,” the Retail Council’s announcement reads. “They have been tireless promoters of post-secondary education, advancements in health care and the visual arts in Canada.”
