Retail trade edges up in September

OTTAWA — Retail sales rose 1.0% to $40.7 billion in September, a third consecutive monthly increase. This advance was largely attributable to higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers. Sales at building materials and garden equipment and supplies dealers were up for a third straight month, rising 0.8%.
