The value of building permits rose 2.3 percent in May to $12.1-billion, StatCan reports. The increase was aided by a seven-percent spike in the non-residential sector, to a value of $4.3-billion. Residential permits edged down 0.1 percent to $7.8-billion overall due to declines in multi-family building intentions. For single-family dwellings, the value of permits rose by seven percent.
