Small business lobbyists seek to extend CEBA deadline

Almost 90 percent of loans under the Canada Emergency Business Account remained outstanding at the end of last November. With repayments due at the end of this year, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business is asking Ottawa to include another extension when the annual budget is tabled this week.

CFIB president Dan Kelly told The Globe and Mail that it may be tempting to put the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, but “I don’t think that’s a wise idea because of the anchors of debt hanging around the necks of hundreds of thousands of small business owners right now.”
