Finance minister Chrystia Freeland told the House of Commons last week that the deadline to repay loans from the Canada Emergency Business Account would be extended. Since the announcement, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business has been fielding calls from members wondering what the new timeline will be.
“And we don’t have an answer to that yet,” says CFIB president Dan Kelly. “It’s very clear to me that this was an absolute last-minute addition to the fall economic update, given that there’s zero detail.” The deadline for repayment was originally set for Dec. 31, 2022.
