Throwback Thursday: 10 years ago Loblaw Cos. bought Shoppers Drug Mart

Throwback Thursday is a weekly dip into the Hardlines Weekly Report archives. On July 22, 2013, ten years ago, we reported that…

Loblaw Cos. Ltd. is buying up all outstanding common shares of Shoppers Drug Mart in a transaction worth $12.4 billion. The combined company represents more than $43 billion in sales based on 2012 results. Loblaw expects the acquisition to give it a valuable footprint in the small-urban store sector, and the Shoppers stores will carry Loblaw’s private label and convenience food.
