Throwback Thursday: Ten years ago, Canadian Tire only just “moving into the digital world”

Now that the three biggest corporate-owned retailers in our industry (Home Depot, RONA, and Canadian Tire) are averaging 10 to 12 percentage of their overall sales online, it’s worth remembering that only ten years ago Canadian Tire was just getting started in “omnichannel.”

We were excited to report in our June 10, 2013, edition of the Hardlines weekly report that “Canadian Tire is moving into the digital world with a new online catalogue and new ways to sell online and deliver through dealer stores.” When the “bugs are worked out,” we reported, “those digital initiatives can be rolled out to Canadian Tire’s 490 associate stores.”
