Throwback Thursday: Ten years since McMunn & Yates bought McDiarmid Lumber

Our May 27, 2013, Hardlines reported that 16-store McMunn & Yates, based in Dauphin, Man., had bought the assets of troubled five-store Winnipeg-based retailer McDiarmid Lumber. “McDiarmid had been plagued in recent months by internal strife, as its owner, Tom Matthews, and his son-in-law, Vince Ryz, who also managed the business, came into conflict and ended up suing one another,” we reported. The Winnipeg Free Press said the deal cost McMunn & Yates about $30 million.
