Toronto retailers get limited lifeline in grey zone

Toronto and neighbouring Peel Region move into Ontario’s “grey” zone today, allowing all retailers to open for in-person shopping. Essential retailers like supermarkets are capped at 50 percent capacity, while others must limit store traffic to 25 percent. At the same time, lockdown is ending in North Bay-Parry Sound, which is moving directly into the red zone. There, hardware dealers may open at 50 percent capacity.

Christine Elliott, the province’s health minister, urged citizens to remain vigilant. “Despite this positive step forward, a return to the framework is not a return to normal,” she said in a statement. Other areas moving to red include Peterborough and Sudbury. Haldimand-Norfolk and Timiskaming are going orange while Renfew County and Kawartha are among the regions entering the yellow zone.
