U.S. construction spending edges up in July

WASHINGTON — Total investment in U.S. construction rose by 0.1 percent in July, according to data from the U.S. Commerce Department. July’s uptick followed a 0.5 percent drop in June, but fell short of the one percent increase forecast by economists. Spending on residential construction for the month rose by 2.1 percent while non-residential construction declined by one percent.
