U.S. construction spending edges up on single-family growth

WASHINGTON — U.S. construction spending rose by 1.4 percent in August, doubling July’s 0.7 percent gain, which was revised up from 0.1 percent. Residential construction for the month was up 3.7 percent, with the single-family dwelling segment alone seeing a gain of 5.5 percent.
