U.S. construction spending flat in August

The U.S. Commerce Department reported last week that investment in construction was unchanged in August, following a 0.3 percent uptick in July. Year-over-year, however, spending was up by 8.9 percent. Construction of single-family homes dropped by 0.7 percent, hit by high materials costs and labour shortages.
