U.S. construction spending slides in July

Investment in U.S. construction projects fell by 0.4 percent in July, according to U.S. Commerce Department data, following a 0.5 percent decline in June. Residential construction spending was down by 1.5 percent, with investment in the single-family segment tumbling by four percent. Rising mortgage rates and elevated housing prices both contributed to cooling demand from prospective buyers.
