WASHINGTON, D.C. ― The U.S. Census Bureau announced that housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,142,000. That’s down 5.8% from the previous month, but up 0.9% over August 2015. The number of building permits for housing reached 1,139,000 seasonally adjusted, off 0.4% from July, and down 2.3% from August 2015.
