U.S. housing starts, permits fall in April

WASHINGTON — April’s housing starts in the U.S. were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 891,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That was 30.2 percent below the revised March estimate of 1,276,000 and 29.7 percent below the April 2019 rate of 1,267,000. Single-family housing starts were at a rate of 650,000, 25.4 percent below the revised March figure of 871,000.

The SAAR of units authorized by building permits was 1,074,000, which was 20.8 percent below the revised March rate and down 19.2 percent from a year ago. Single-family permits in April were at a rate of 669,000.
