U.S. retail sales rise in April

U.S. retail sales increased by 0.9 percent in April, according to data from the U.S. Commerce Department. Automotive and electronic sales, along with restaurant receipts, were the biggest drivers of growth. Spending rose in nine out of 13 retail categories. March’s preliminary estimate was revised upward to an increase of 1.4 percent.
