As a young teenager during World War II, Princess Elizabeth wanted to do her part, and became the first female member of the British royal family to enlist in the army. She served as a mechanic in the auto detail, fixing engines, changing tires, and driving ambulances and trucks.
The young queen-to-be was dubbed the “Princess Auto Mechanic,” around the same time that an auto parts dealer was setting up shop on Princess Street in Winnipeg. Today, Princess Auto has 50 locations across the country.
