BOUCHERVILLE, Que. ― Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity are marking International Women’s Day today with the first International Women Build Day, an event focused on building and improving homes while raising awareness of affordable housing issues facing women and their families. Hundreds of women will volunteer in 18 communities in Canada, the United States and India. In Canada, Habitat for Humanity Quebec will build a new and affordable home in partnership with a local family in Montréal’s Saint-Henri neighborhood. To kick off the project, the organization will hold a special build day today with a team of 20 women from the Lowe’s Canada network.
“As a leading home improvement retailer, Lowe’s Canada strives to help Canadians turn their houses into homes,” Jean-Sébastien Lamoureux, senior VP for communications, public affairs and compliance said in a release. “That given, partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help families gain access to home ownership and improve their quality of life is a natural fit for Lowe’s Canada and our family of banners.”
