Canadian Tire profits soar

TORONTO — Canadian Tire’s profits for the fourth quarter jumped 17%, buoyed by sales of sporting equipment and winter clothing, Reuters reports. The company’s net income rose to $191 million, or $2.32 per share, from C$162.8 million a year earlier. Same-store sales at the company’s Canadian Tire outlets rose 4% in the quarter. Consolidated retail sales increased 5.5% to $3.98 billion in the quarter.
