Canwel neighbours call for private logging regulation

FERNIE, B.C. — Two local community groups will host a public meeting today to mobilize public support for logging restrictions, their concerns sparked by Canwel operations on an Elk Valley slope. Wildsight and the Fernie Trails Alliance are calling on the provincial government to increase oversight of private logging, which operates under a different set of rules than the public lands, which constitute 95% of B.C. timber.
