Four recognized for lifetime achievement

DIEPPE, N.B. —  At the Gala Dinner of the Atlantic Building Supply Dealers Association, held during its show earlier this month, Harold Dawe accepted the association’s Lifetime Membership Award for his years as a long-time member of the association. Harold was instrumental in the growth of Stan Dawe Ltd.; a chain of Castle building centre locations founded by his father Stan Dawe. Today, Stan Dawe Ltd. has five locations in Western Newfoundland.

Also awarded: Provan Wylie, former president of Castle Building Centres. Wylie, who retired in 2007, is the first person ever from outside the Atlantic Region to receive the award. J. James Grant, who owned and operated JJ Grant in New Glasgow, N.S., was president of the ABSDA in 1973. He served as director for five years, from 1970-75 and is currently Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Bob McCallum served as a director of the association from 1995-2000, mainly as chair of the membership committee. He enjoyed a long career with Lockharts Ltd. and was the joint-venture operator of the Lockharts location in Chatham Head, N.B.
