Home Depot pilots “DIY automotive”

ATLANTA — Home Depot is reaching out to its loyal professional customers with a pilot “DIY automotive” project, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. “We really like what we are seeing,” says CFO Carol Tomé. “It’s replacing your windshield wipers and spark plugs. It’s a natural extension of what we do. I like what I see.” The pilot is currently in place at 50 stores across the U.S. Tomé explained that 4% of Home Depot’s customers give the company 40% of its business, and many are hands-on professionals and contractors who work on their own cars. Selling automotive parts moves Home Depot closer to the goal of a one-stop DIY shop.
