Housing starts soar in April

The annualized rate of housing starts in Canada rose 22 percent in April, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reports, reaching 261,559 units. In urban areas, housing starts rose by 26 percent to 241,585 units, including gains in the big three markets of Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. Rural starts were estimated at a pace of 19,974 units.
