Japan’s Muji comes to Toronto

TOKYO — Housewares retailer Muji will open its first Canadian store at the Toronto Eaton Centre in December, with two more stores planned for the city in 2015. The unusual banner commands intense consumer loyalty with its distinctive approach, shunning environmentally irresponsible packaging, market research, and almost all advertising. Muji, which stands for Mujirushi Ryohin (no-brand superior items) offers some 7,500 products in Japan including lines in clothing, furniture, and appliances. About 3,000 will be available at the Canadian stores, according to Report on Business.
