Loblaw focuses on Shoppers in Q1

TORONTO — Loblaw focused on integrating its Shoppers Drug Mart assets during the first quarter, piloting the placement of fresh produce in select Shoppers stores and putting more President’s Choice products on their shelves. Spokesman Kevin Groh said that the plan is to make Shoppers a one-stop shop for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, according to The Globe & Mail, and expands on existing grocery offerings in some locations.

Higher food prices helped to buoy earnings as the grocer passed on costs to customers, but the company’s food inflation still outstripped the national average. Loblaw also felt a crunch from provincial governments, which have been cutting payments to pharmacies as part of prescription drug reform plans.
