MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. is gearing up for major layoffs from its U.S. operations. The company would not specify the total number of workers affected, but they number in the thousands. Assembly, maintenance and facility service jobs are among those being contracted out to third parties. “We are moving to third-party assemblers and facility services to allow Lowe’s store associates to spend more time on the sales floor serving customers,” a spokesperson said. Lowe’s Canada is unaffected by the cuts.
