New name coming to reflect CMHC’s mandate

OTTAWA — The Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp. is positioning itself to rebrand over the coming months, a move that will include a new name yet to be announced. CEO and President Evan Siddall told the Canadian Press that the crown corporation’s current identity unduly emphasizes its role in supporting home ownership. The current government has given it a much broader role in overseeing housing strategy nationwide. While an act of parliament would be required for an official name change, the Federal Identity Program provides for government agencies to do business under a trade name. “I would not blame other people for how they perceive us, because the only people who control that is us,” Siddall said.
