Nordstrom to open Eaton Centre flagship

TORONTO —  Nordstrom has signed on to take the place of Sears in Toronto’s Eaton Centre, in a move widely expected since the latter retailer announced its departure from the mall. At 213,000 square feet and three levels, the store will be one of the retailer’s first four stores in the country when it opens in 2016: the first will open in Calgary this fall. The move is part of a trend toward opening up the Canadian market to more upscale banners. Montreal’s La Maison Simons is pushing expansion across Canada, while HBC has seven Saks stores in the works for Canada after acquiring the brand last year, according to the Financial Post.
