Sears eyes rural push

DARTMOUTH, N.S. —  Sears Canada CEO Doug Campbell told Nova Scotia managers that the Maritime economy will benefit from the company’s focus on increasing its presence in rural and suburban communities. “We are strengthening our supply chain and rethinking inventory,” Campbell remarked after touring Sears operations in the region. The announcement comes on the heels of major restructuring at Sears, including layoffs and the relinquishment of some landmark properties. Campbell pledged smart inventory choices based on consumer preferences, which don’t always translate between urban and rural markets, The Chronicle-Herald reports.
