Throwback Thursday: Hardlines Retail Report tells us industry has doubled in 20 years

Throwback Thursday is a weekly feature in which we dip into the Hardlines Weekly Report archives:

“Home improvement is one hot retail sector,” we reported on Sept. 2, 2003. The industry had reached “$30 billion in sales at retail in 2002… after three years of record growth.”

Twenty years later, our industry reached just over $61 billion at retail last year, says the 2022 Hardlines Retail Report. That’s a compound annual growth rate of approximately 3.6 percent. Meanwhile, Canada’s average inflation for the 20 years from 2002 to 2022 was 2.1 percent.

(This year’s Retail Report is now available.
