Canadian Tire Corp. made a big splash in Canada last year celebrating its centennial year in business. The company was founded by J.W. Billes and A.J. Billes in Toronto on Sept. 15, 1922.
What, then, to make of Canadian Tire’s 1953 Spring and Summer Catalogue, published at this time of year, 70 years ago? The banner at the bottom reads: “40th Year of Service: 1913-1953.” What’s with the 1913 date for the (implied) founding of the company?
