U.S. construction spending down in December

Investment in U.S. construction took a surprise 0.4 percent downturn in December, according to the latest U.S. Commerce Department data. Economists polled by Reuters had projected that spending would remain flat. Residential construction spending was down by 0.3 percent. In November, total construction investment was up 7.7 percent on a year-over-year basis.
