BENTONVILLE, Ark. ― This past Monday was “Prime Day” for Amazon, with the online seller promoting its premium Prime service in tandem with a celebration of its 20th anniversary. To combat Amazon’s aggressive online sales promotions, Wal-Mart hosted its own promotions that day, and reports that those efforts were very successful. Sales for that day were up by triple digits over the same day last year, and the online promotions drove traffic into the stores.
