SYDNEY, N.S. — Kent Building Supplies has applied to municipal authorities in Cape Breton for a zoning amendment that would clear the way for the company to purchase and develop a 40-hectacre property next to Sydney’s Mayflower Mall. According to the Cape Breton Post, the eastern stretch of the land is currently designated for residential use, limiting development to just over half of the lot. City planner Karen Neville explained to Cape Breton councillors that it’s within their remit to consider the application, since it concerns an area adjacent to an existing business zone. A public consultation on the proposal will make recommendations to the council.
